Building the Future One Machine at a
Time
You
might expect the people at Komo Machine to be satisfied with
building some of the most versatile, reliable machines in the world.
But talk to any Komo employee - top management on down - and you'll
find that we measure the success of our machines against a far
different standard: the needs of our customers.
It's
a simple idea that reflects our core values: Experience,
Growth, Innovation and Excellence. By building these values
into every phase of the manufacturing process - from design through
assembly - we've met the changes and challenges of the past 40+
years with revolutionary ideas, superior designs, comprehensive
support and an unwavering commitment to create the right production
solution.
A History of Innovation
Komo
Machine was founded in 1966 by William Koska and George Molus (the
Ko and Mo in Komo) in
St. Cloud,
Minnesota.
The two men were seasoned machinists and engineers who began the
operation as a general metalworking business, producing a variety of
manual and automated production line machines for major
manufacturers of consumer appliances.
What
began as a simple concept soon became a tremendous business success.
By 1980, Komo Machine had become the largest single manufacturer of
automated urethane process machines in
North America,
with multiple unit lines in operation at most major appliance
manufacturing plants.
New
owners purchased Komo Machine in 1981 and infused a new emphasis on
growth and diversification of the product areas. Corporate
operations moved to a larger facility in the neighboring city of
Sauk Rapids
in 1987. With a new 175,000 square foot facility, Komo Machine had
then nearly doubled in size and workforce, facilitating the
company's rapid growth as an industry leader.
Growth and Diversification
Komo
Machine began building CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled)
machining centers in the early 1980's for its own production use. In
1984, Komo Machine introduced a line of CNC large bed and large
travel machining centers for metalworkers, which became our VMC
(Vertical Machining Center) product line.
The
success of the VMC product line encouraged Komo Machine to expand
its customer base further by designing and building a new line of
high-speed multi-axis CNC routers for customers in the woodworking
and plastics industries. With success due in part to the
similarities between the two types of machines, Komo is now one of
the the
largest manufacturers of CNC routers, with over 2200
machines installed since 1987.
The 1990's saw Komo
Machine evolve into three equal business units: Komo Automation, VMC
Machining Centers and CNC Routers.
Komo Machine
moves Corporate Headquarters
Komo Machine announced plans today to
move their corporate headquarters to a new facility located in
Lakewood, NJ. The new facility is the focal point of the
company’s U.S. operation and will include manufacturing, space for machine
demonstrations and customer training, as well as housing the central
call center for customer support, including machine service,
software support, spare parts ordering and applications assistance. The facility
is also
the base of operations for the company’s engineering and sales
departments. The new facility was in full operation on October 1, 2009.

The move to the new facility included phasing out the current operation located in Sauk Rapids,
MN. Assembly of the company’s line of high performance CNC routers
was moved to their manufacturing facility located in Lakewood, NJ.
Komo will continue to offer its entire
product line of CNC routers and machining centers and also its proprietary Komo
Production Manager (KPM) operator interface. The company has plans
for the introduction of new machine models designed
to meet the ever changing needs of its diverse customer base.
