The compact, heavy-duty
construction of the Summit Stone Machining Center is achieved
by use of 3D modeling on our
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) engineering computer
systems. It's the same design process used by leading aerospace
firms. With FEA, we can mathematically calculate anything about the Summit construction and translate it into accurate, verified
frame components for maximum structural integrity. |

Machining Head |
One ISO 40 Taper electro-spindle, 24 HP (18 kw) spindle
with programmable spindle speeds up to 10,000 RPM. The
spindle is equipped with coolant through the spindle and automatic flood
coolant, and is powered by an AC Frequency Inverter. The ISO tool
connection provides a rigid tool interface to insure high cutting
performance in a variety of materials with the highest quality part
finish.
The Summit has a 29 position tool rack with
the two end pockets designed for larger tools. The tools are protected
by an automatic aluminum cover which is activated during tool changes. The tool
rack eliminates the need
for the operator to stop the machine to change tools manually, allowing
the program to continue uninterrupted. |

The work
surface is cast aluminum plate that provides extreme rigidity and a
reliable surface for pod placement.

Vacuum System |
The Summit Stone Machining Center comes with
a 2 HP (1.5 kw) vacuum pump with a low sensing feature.
The pump is a very efficient and low maintenance style pump for
effective operation in stone applications. The pump is in a fixed
location at the rear of the machine with all plumbing accomplished at
the factory. |
Positioning |
Y axis (gantry) motion is accomplished via
a dual pre-loaded precision ball screws mounted on each side of the base
frame. X and Z axis motion are accomplished via pre-loaded precision ball screws. Each axis is mounted on precision ground linear guideways with pre-loaded precision trucks.
All ball screws are driven by high
performance servo motors and are positioned using a 1,000,000
pulses-per-revolution absolute encoder mounted on each servo.
